U15 season overview

Whilst I would like to thank all the players for their efforts this season, it would only be fair to recognise a special vote of thanks and congratulations for 3 players – Sebastian, Rodolfe and Francisco B – the captain, vice-captain and goal keeper respectively, who each played pivotal roles in the team and displayed exceptional skill, tenacity, resilience and acted as great role models for the rest of our young squad – well done!!
Here is a summary of the indoor results and final classification:
PastedImage-2.png
The “official” indoor matches have now finished for us, however we will continue to train on Thursday’s at Alvide (7-8.15pm) as well as train “outdoor” at the Estadio Nacional on Saturday mornings (9.30-11.00am) and Mondays at SDR (7-8pm) – in addition, there is also an excellent and fun opportunity to come and play in the “peladinha” at the EN each Wednesday (7.30-8.30pm). We will also be organising friendly “outdoor” matches so please keep an eye open!
If we wish to be serious about making further progress, and improving on this seasons excellent start, then it is essential that all players attend at least two of the above sessions each week – as always, progress is only made by lots of “small steps and hard work” – Mums & Dads your continuing support is, as always, key to helping us achieve this!!!
Final U15 indoor game against CFB  U15, Sunday 14 January
At the beginning of the season we lost 0-11 to CFB. On the return match it was again clearly evident the team has evolved significantly over the season with a much improved result of 0-7 against a team that finished joint winners of the league (we have finished 5th out of 6).
The team took a while to adapt to a totally different game from the day before against CP ladies – this time there was instant and sustained pressure throughout the game (who had two very large players who will not be playing U15 next year!) with significant improvement in the second half when only one goal was scored (and we were unfairly denied a penalty!).
Here is a link to LCHC TV on YouTube with a video of the game (thanks again JM!):

U15 game against Casa Pia Ladies

In our penultimate game, we were hoping to get another “win” and it appeared our opponents objective was only to “not lose” – from the first minute CP positioned all 6 players in and around their D (they literally “parked the bus”)!

So with little pressure against, we bombarded their D during most of the 1st half but, due somewhat to a lack of creativity, we were unable to score. The 2nd half was more open with lots of opportunities for both teams.

Our newest “star”, Miguel then scored a magnificent goal in his first game and it looked like we had done enough. Following a considerable number of “highly questionable” decisions going against us, CP then scored from a late SC to end with a 1-1 draw. Plenty of good quality hockey from the whole team!

Take a look the game video on LCTV YouTube (many thanks again to JM!):

Parents vs Kids mini-tournament

We were blessed with wonderful weather for the parents vs kids mini-tournament on Saturday. As predicted, the two kids teams (the “Snowmen” and “Reindeers”) outclassed and outplayed the parents (“Fathers & Mothers Christmas”). The Snowmen won both their matches to come in first place, with the Reindeers a close second.

But lets give a really big hand to the mum’s and dad’s who revealed plenty of “hidden” talent and “raw potential”….

Pedro L – “what do you mean I can’t use my feet to stop the ball going into the goal?!”
Luis B – interesting inverted stick grip but surprisingly quick and sneeky (for a Burnay…)!
Nuno M – speedy gonzalez, just didn’t get enough quality ball….another who needs to come join the Vets…!
Frank – always a gentleman, even during the heat of battle!
Ginnelle – very competitive, but “I really don’t like any of these pesky kids” – ouch!!
Raoul – wow, a speedy Father Christmas who took no prisoners (definitely needs to join the Vets immediately)!
Graça E – super-mum, full of energy and talent and hungry for goals!
Duarte A – hasn’t lost any of his class and skill, so get operated ASAP and come back and play full time!
João S – a quiet young man, full of potential who also needs to come join the Vets…..!

It would be great to see them come join in with the Vets on Wednesday evenings and Saturday afternoons so we can help turn them into diamonds (or at least polished quartz)!!

Missing in action:
Claudia – unfortunately ill
Ana B – what happened to our promised “Cheerleader”??

Many thanks to everyone for bringing food, drinks and being so willing to join in and have a fun time!

Merry Christmas to all.

CPAC S15 x LC S15

On our return game against the experienced league leaders (CP), we were hoping for some improvement from our first game of the season. At half time the score was a respectable 2-5 with CP. In the second half we lost a bit of shape and discipline and CP demonstrated why they have beaten all other teams with relative ease, with the final result being 3-12. On the bright side, only one other team has scored more than 1 goal against CP this season, largely to their excellent goalkeeper, and we scored 3 fantastic, high quality goals!!!
Good performance all round and the learning experience continues. Time for a well earned Christmas break – our next game will be against our LC ladies on 6 January (11.00am) followed by 2 games on 13 and 14 January.
Goals: Sebastian 3
