LCHC Vets at Octopus Hockey Festival – Ourense

Vets OHF 2015 1Lisbon Casuals Vets Squad set off for Ourense at lunchtime on Friday 11th September to play in the 10th Anniversary Ourense Vets (Mens) Tournament. After a leisurely stroll around the city on the Friday night until the early hours stopping off at local watering holes to assimilate the local culture your team got down to business early the next morning but were caught cold by the boys from Bremen. Being pitted against the home team and holders in the next game was a tall order but we had spotted Hamburg as being the team we could get a result.

Despite dominating the next game against Hamburg we were narrowly defeated 1-0. After 3 games of 35 minutes and constant refreshment throughout the day our last game of the day against Sport could have been a disaster but a change in team formation and tactics enabled us to hold out for most of the game only to be narrowly defeated.

Our hosts put on a memorable banquet that evening and your team behaved very well at least until 12 of the 13 had already left the restaurant. To our surprise despite another late night in the city we were not the last to be tucked in bed with a number of nationalities still roaming the streets at dawn.

The effects of all this revelry became very evident in the Sunday morning games as the standard of play plummeted but your team maintained a consistent standard throughout and almost squeezed a draw against the highly fancied Vigo team. After receiving our prize for being 6th a sumptuous Galician lunch was enjoyed by all before the long trek back to Lisbon.

Special recognition to Jerry for exhibiting strong leadership skills on the field, James for his extrovert behavior off the field, the Belem boys for holding their tongues, Kai for spending most of his time with Bremen and Hamburg and last but not least for João Miguel in completing his first Vets tour by keeping the up with pace.

May 2 & 3 U13 Outdoor Finals.

A relatively inexperienced Casuals U13 team had a fantastic Outdoor Final, to come fourth, a result which belied their improvement in every game, with a memorable win in the last game against GD Viso. Viso opened the scoring but Captain Martim (of the Lima clan) soon replied with his first of three and Sebastian Baird scored the fourth, all from open play with almost every move started up the right wing by lightning fast Maarten Green (we hope you train more hockey and less football next season!). With revelations Margot and Ana putting up a sterling defence in front of novice goalie Manuel, Viso did not manage to get through to the Casuals goal again.

Many thanks to Hugo Jesus for coaching the team during the two days and congratulations to Sebastian Baird being selected for the 2015 U13 Outdoor Dream Team.”

Apr. 12 – Ladies in the Cup final

The ladies won their place in the Portuguese Cup final this weekend, after coming from 0-1 down after the first leg of their semi-final.

They started under a lot of pressure and for the first 7/8 minutes they were lost with a lot of missed passes, poor ball control… after this they found their way under the guidance of their captain Angela Lima and the ladies’ star Inês Campos and never again lost control of the game. Despite being in full control of the game, the 1st goal only appeared from the 5th short-corner by Carolina Oliveira.

After the break, Belenenses desperately needed a goal to get through to the final and tried to push up, but this only worked for LCHC because we finally found the spaces we needed. The best was still to come, the goal of the day was scored by our speedy warrior Georgina Scheder-Bieschin with a fantastic tip in, slotting the ball in the top left angle after a strong pass from Raquel Freitas: the explosion of happiness on the pitch was amazing, we were ahead in the qualifier for the first time.

To close out this amazing game our star recovered the ball immediately in the Belenenses defence and like an arrow aimed at the goal, she ran straight to the top of the circle leaving 2 Belenenses players behind, to make a brilliant full rotation and shoot hard: the goalie was about to kick the ball out when Joana Penetra with a super intelligent move, tipped in the ball from Inês, making it impossible to defend. Belenenses now had to score 2 goals just to tie the qualifier and 3 to pass… The ladies wouldn’t allow any goal in and sealed their 1st class ticket to the 1st LCHC Cup Final.

Apr. 11 – U18 6th win in a row

Resultado final: Casa Pia  0 – 6  Lisbon Casuals

Mar. 8 – Ladies lost 2nd outdoor match of the season…

Belenensesx LCHC Ladies

Last Sunday, the LCHC ladies face Belenenses for the 1st match between the two teams for the Portuguese Cup.

After the win of 5-0 to the championship in October against Belenenses, early in the game it was obvious who was going to dominate the game, with a fantastic offensive waves LCHC easily install them self on Belenenses half pitch. Several chance to score but with all Belenenses team inside the defensive circle it was difficult to find our way to he goal.

Incredibly in one of the few counter-attack of Belenenses they manage to score catching LCHC by surprise.

On the second half the dominance was even more noticed. The ladies pushed really hard keeping belenenses most of the second half inside their defensive circle. But not even with more than 20 shots on goal we manage to score and make this the second defeat in outdoor this season, but not all is lost since we have the second match to decide who goes to the finals.
