Nov. 2 Home Derby

The surprise of the weekend was the U15 winning agaisnt the Ladies at a ‘home derby’. The Ladies dominated the first half of the game with perfect ball circulation, giving their young opponents almost no chance to attack the ladies’  area. And the first goal was perfectly scored by U15 player Marije making her debut for the Ladies.

But the second half was a completely different game, with the Ladies losing control of the game and no longer executing ball circulation, while the U15s started to grow in confidence and achieved their first goal by Diogo Lima early in the second half.

The game at this stage was equal; both teams could have scored goals but it was the U15 that started to run away on the score board with 2 goals from John Harrison and another from Vicente Mourão, reaching an amazing 4-1.

The ladies weren’t happy with this and their captain Angela pushed the team and scored 2 goals in a very short period of time, but all the effort was in vain as the umpire’s whistle went with a final score for the U15s of 4-3!

A lovely game with both sides doing everything to attack the circle. The 1-1 score at half time was a true sign of the perfect balance between the two teams with the LCHC goal being scored by our youngest player Marina Gancedo.

In the second half the more experienced LCHC team found their second goal through Rita de Sousa, but the best moment of the night was reserved for the end: a perfectly injected short corner by Carolina Oliveira, but not so well stopped. However the loose ball found the stick of Raquel Freitas who only had time for a backhand shot and, with the ball on it’s way to goal, Angela Lima managed a beautiful mid-air deflection sending the ball straight into the top left angle, and making everyone around the pitch cheer loudly!

Lisbon Casuals Ladies would like to thank Browns Sports&Leisure Club for making this game possible despite all the difficulties, and a special thanks to the Wellington College Belfast player Olivia, who played for LCHC in the first half. Thank you very much and see you guys next year.

Oct. 12 – Start of the 2014/15 season for the Men’s squad

On Friday evening the Men´s and Ladies´ teams joined to play a Mixed match against Freshfields HC from the UK. Casuals won an entertaining and light-hearted game 7-0.

Today the Men travelled to Porto to play Sport Club in their first league match. After some last-minute disappointments leaving Lisbon, they kept their opponents out for the first 15 minutes but, after Joe Kodde had made a spectacular clearance from a high strike at a penalty corner, they conceded two goals in 8 minutes, with Sport rounding the keeper for the second. But three minutes later Casuals pulled a goal back with a lovely tip-in from João Ralha. Just before the interval they pulled level at 2-2 when an exchange of passes in the midfield found Fred Santos, who waited for the keeper to commit before slamming a backhand shot into the roof of the net.

Sport started the second half in determined mood but, with João Miguel Freitas in goal making several last-ditch saves, it took 15 minutes for Sport to break the deadlock with a fierce penalty corner strike just inside the post. With the Casuals players tiring, the hosts added another goal to win 4-2, but Casuals can be satisfied with a good first performance in difficult circumstances.

LCHC Ladies in Europe for the first time!

Road-to-Budapest

For the first time in their history a team from LCHC is going to represent Portugal at an  European Championship. The ladies won their place among the best last season by winning the Indoor National Championship. This year budapest will be the host for the LCHC Ladies new challenge. The team and Coach like to thank all that made this possible, all sponsors,  club members, partners, friends and family, without you none of this was possible. The team also like to thank a special player that help us during last indoor season (Ugne Chemilauskaite) and she’s an outstanding person.
