Nov. 30

The U-15s played their first indoor game on Sunday morning against Casa Pia Ladies and, in spite of the early hour and only one training session the day before, they looked like they had been playing together for six weeks, not six minutes. That was how long it took to get a penalty stroke, and captain Vicente put the first score on the board for the Casuals. It took him just one more minute to put a second goal in. Then one of the two talent discoveries of the day, Fleur Huijsmans, scored 2 more goals from open play and Vicente made it a hat-trick from a penalty corner to take a 5-0 lead into the interval.

After the break, Casa Pia came out fighting, but the second talent discovery of the day, Kim Huijsmans, Fleur’s older sister, took everything in her stride, stayed calm under pressure and played a very mature game at centre back. Vicente then got his fourth goal from another penalty corner and Marina rubbed salt in the wound with a nicely worked goal in the dying minutes, to close out a convincing 7-0 win. Watch out Lisbon Casuals Ladies!

After a tough defeat against Carris this morning, the Men played a second indoor game against Futebol Benfica this evening. Philip Wenzel put the Casuals ahead with a well-directed tip-in from a great through ball by Fred Santos. Futebol Benfica equalized from a defensive mix-up, but Casuals were holding their own. However only André Rosa’s save from a penalty stroke kept the scores level 1-1 at the break. In the second half Casuals’ play became more and more sloppy – perhaps tiredness from the morning game began to take its toll. Their mistakes were punished with regular goals from Futebol Benfica and left them with a 1-7 defeat.

Nov. 2 Home Derby

The surprise of the weekend was the U15 winning agaisnt the Ladies at a ‘home derby’. The Ladies dominated the first half of the game with perfect ball circulation, giving their young opponents almost no chance to attack the ladies’  area. And the first goal was perfectly scored by U15 player Marije making her debut for the Ladies.

But the second half was a completely different game, with the Ladies losing control of the game and no longer executing ball circulation, while the U15s started to grow in confidence and achieved their first goal by Diogo Lima early in the second half.

The game at this stage was equal; both teams could have scored goals but it was the U15 that started to run away on the score board with 2 goals from John Harrison and another from Vicente Mourão, reaching an amazing 4-1.

The ladies weren’t happy with this and their captain Angela pushed the team and scored 2 goals in a very short period of time, but all the effort was in vain as the umpire’s whistle went with a final score for the U15s of 4-3!

Oct. 19 – U15 Win

After only limited training time this season so far and with one less player than CF Benfica and no substitutes, the U-15 put on a fine show to win its first game 8-1 with almost every player putting a goal on the score sheet.

LCHC went into the interval leading 4-0, with 2 goals apiece from Diogo Lima and Vicente Mourão, of which 3 were from open play and one from a short corner. After the interval, LCHC played without a goalie or kicking back and added another 4 goals to 1, again 3 from open play and one short corner.
